Town of Smithfield, RI Launches “TextMyGov” to Improve Communication With Residents.

Town of Smithfield, RI — The Town of Smithfield is excited to announce the launch of TextMyGov, a text-messaging communication tool designed to make it easier for residents to stay informed and connected with municipal services.

Beginning this month, residents can opt in to receive timely text alerts directly on their mobile phones. These notifications may include updates about town events, road closures, public safety information, weather-related announcements, election reminders, and other important community news.

Future Expansion: Two-Way Texting for Questions & Issue Reporting

While the initial rollout focuses on outbound notifications, the Town plans to expand TextMyGov later this year to allow two-way texting, enabling residents to:

  • Ask common questions about town services
  • Report non-emergency issues
  • Receive automated responses 24/7
  • Connect more easily with the appropriate departments

This expansion will make it even easier for residents to interact with Town departments and access government services.

How to Sign Up

Residents can sign up by texting “SMITHFIELD INFO” to 91896. Enrollment is free, and users may unsubscribe at any time.

The Town encourages all residents to enroll and take advantage of this new communication tool.
