A Community Message from the Smithfield Public Schools

Post Date:02/18/2026 2:21 PM
Dear Smithfield Families and Staff,
We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at Lynch Arena Monday afternoon. Acts of violence impact not only those directly involved, but ripple across entire communities, leaving many feeling shaken, concerned, and searching for reassurance.
Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected. We recognize that events like this can create fear and uncertainty, especially for our students and families. Please know that support is available. Any student, staff member, or family in need of assistance is encouraged to reach out to their school principal or school counselor.
During times like these, it is important that we come together as a community—checking in on one another, offering support, and reaffirming our shared commitment to kindness, care, and safety. The Smithfield Police Department and Smithfield Public Schools remain committed partners in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community.
The Smithfield Police Department will continue to maintain a visible presence at our schools and school events to further support and reassure our community. Please do not hesitate to contact the Smithfield Police Department if you observe any type of suspicious activity or have safety concerns.
Sincerely,
Lisa Odom-Villella
