How to Run for Office - 2026
The Rhode Island Department of State Elections Division, in partnership with the Rhode Island Board of Elections, is offering How to Run for Office seminars for those interested in running for office in 2026. The seminars will cover Important Calendar Highlights, Nomination Paper Overview, Campaign Finance and more. Below is the list of dates and locations:
Monday, May 11 at 6:00pm - Online - Zoom link will be provided upon registration
Tuesday, May 19 at 6:00pm - In Person - Rhode Island Department of State Elections Division, 146 W. River Street, Providence, RI 02904
Monday, June 15 at 6:00pm - In Person - State Board of Elections, 2000 Plainfield Pike, Cranston, RI 02921 with option to tour the facility.

Updating Voter Registration
We encourage residents to update their voter registration. This may include a change of name because of marital status or acquiring a Real ID, change of address, residency and mailing, and party affiliation.
Changes can be made online through the State of RI Voter Information site as well as in person at the Town Clerk's Office in the Town Hall. You can inquire about your voter information by contacting the Town Clerk's Office at 401-233-1001.
Voter ID
Voter ID is intended to strengthen the public's faith in the fairness of our elections by enabling poll workers to match a voter's face to the name they give at the polls.
When you vote at your polling place, poll workers will ask you to show a current and valid ID. Acceptable photo IDs include:
- RI driver's license
- U.S. passport
- ID card issued by an educational institution in the United States
- U.S. military identification card
- State of Rhode Island or federal government-issued ID card
- Government-issued medical card

Voter Registrations are received daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm in the Town Clerkâs Office or use Online Voter Registration.
