Primary Election Locations Combined

The Board of Canvassers of the Town of Smithfield has combined voting locations to the following two (2) locations for the Primary on Wednesday, September 9, 2026:

The following districts will vote at (3102) Old County Road School, 200 Old County Road:

District 1 (3101), Raymond C. LaPerche Elementary School
District 2 (3102), Old County Road School
District 3 (3103), Pleasant View Elementary School


The following districts will vote at (3105) Smithfield High School, 90 Pleasant View Avenue:

District 4 (3104), Gallagher Middle School 
District 5 (3105), Smithfield High School
District 6 (3106), Elks Lodge #2359


If you are unsure where you are supposed to vote, please call the Town Clerk’s Office at 401-233-1001. The polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. You can view your House District, your Voting Location District, the District Map, by visiting vote.sos.ri.gov

Mail Ballot Applications

If you need a mail ballot for the upcoming elections in 2026, they are now available in the Town Clerk's Office, as well as the RI Secretary of State's Office. You can apply online here through the RI SOS website. You can also print the forms, bring them or mail them to the Town Clerk's Office, 64 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917.

Primary Election Mail Ballot Application - Must be returned to Town Clerk's Office by August 19, 2026 by 4pm

General Election Mail Ballot Application - Must be returned to Town Clerk's Office by October 13, 2026 by 4pm

Updating Voter Registration 

We encourage residents to update their voter registration. This may include a change of name because of marital status or acquiring a Real ID, change of address, residency and mailing, and party affiliation.

Changes can be made online through the State of RI Voter Information site as well as in person at the Town Clerk's Office in the Town Hall. You can inquire about your voter information by contacting the Town Clerk's Office at 401-233-1001.


Voter ID

 

Voter ID is intended to strengthen the public's faith in the fairness of our elections by enabling poll workers to match a voter's face to the name they give at the polls.

When you vote at your polling place, poll workers will ask you to show a current and valid ID. Acceptable photo IDs include:

  • RI driver's license
  • U.S. passport
  • ID card issued by an educational institution in the United States
  • U.S. military identification card
  • State of Rhode Island or federal government-issued ID card
  • Government-issued medical card

Register to vote or change your voter information online at vote.ri.gov.

You can also view your House District, your Voting Location District, the District Map, and sample ballots by visiting the RI Secretary of State Voter Information Center.

To download voter registration forms and mail ballot applications, or view information on your voting district, visit the RI Office of the Secretary of State, Elections and Civics Division, RI Voter Information Center website.

Voter Registrations are received daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm in the Town Clerk’s Office or use Online Voter Registration.

Online forms for Voter Registration are available from the RI Board of Elections website.
