On January 27, 2026, the Town of Smithfield purchased 60 Austin Avenue, also known as Overbrook Academy, for $5.3 million dollars.

In April of 2026, the Town of Smithfield conducted tours of the property to the public.

The Smithfield Police Department and Smithfield Fire Department have utilized the building for training since the purchase. Trainings have included active shooter training and K-9 training.

The Municipal Police Academy used the main building in May of 2026 for cadet training.
